The work is part of a project started in 2019 and devoted to activist feminist groups. Their reference point may be the Black Protests (Women’s Strikes, a response of a part of Polish society to the attempt to tighten the anti-abortion law in force in 2016). Feminist collectives have been invited to participate in the project on an ongoing basis. Some of them boast a longer history (sometimes even a dozen or so years), others have become established in recent years. These are groups that have developed their own methods of action, combat strategies and educational formulas.
The project features fragments of the conversations held and the photographs taken by the artist of the activists from Toruń (groups “Dziewuchy dziewuchom Toruń” and “Kolektyw Manifa Toruńska”), Wrocław (Wrocławski Strajk Kobiet), Bydgoszcz (Manifa Bydgoszcz), Poznań (Inicjatywa Manifa Poznań), Kłodzko (Strajk Kobiet Kłodzko), and Zgorzelec (one-person Strajk Kobiet Zgorzelec).
It is an anthropological and artistic activity falling into the category of art based-research, a strategy with the application of art, increasingly popular in Poland. And although the methodology is by definition incomplete (it is not always possible to bring all the people from one group together at the same time) and open (the project is continued by the artist), it is an attempt to capture (stop and register) – at some point – the idea of community, which is inscribed in various feminist strategies.
