Fifth Column 2019

enamelled metal casting, 45x50mm
edition 6+1 AP

A brooch consisting of a floral ornament (violet), a labrys and the motto ‘Hétéro c’est collabo’ (Hetero women are collaborators) refers to a slogan formulated by a radical faction of the French lesbian feminist movement in the 1970s. Worn in the lapel of a woman’s jacket, it becomes a diversionary act, proof of the legitimacy of conspiracy theories, a sign of belonging. It tells the story of traitors, saboteurs, suspicion, inner enemy, fifth column.

The work was created in cooperation with the Zachęta National Gallery of Art.
