Afternoon cup of tea 2024

performance

Ritual commemorating beginnings of the queer movement in Görlitz and the National-Klub – its first queer organization, which was founded there on December 5, 1920 at 5:00 p.m. by Erich Lorenz.

In memory of the founding meeting of the first queer group in the city, which took place in a teahouse over an afternoon cup of tea in 1920, the artist created a performative experience during which fortune-telling by tea leaves happened. The artist designed two tea blends for the occasion: one for reading the future and one for reading the past. The act of collective fortune-telling enabled us to learn about what has already happened and what the future holds for queer communities.
